Now reaches all mobile consumers with addition of app
NORFOLK, Va., August 31, 2010 — Homes.com, a division of Dominion Enterprises, announced today the release of its app for Android-based mobile devices. Adding to Homes.com’s already extensive suite of mobile sites and apps for iPhone and Blackberry users, the launch of the Android app makes Homes.com the first real estate portal to allow consumers to search for homes for sale and rent on all major mobile platforms.
Homes.com’s Android app serves the fastest-growing segment of mobile homebuyers. According to market research from Canalys, Android is currently the best-selling and fastest growing smartphone OS, with sales soaring 886% from the second quarter of 2009 to the second quarter of 2010.
Offering one of the most powerful property searches in the mobile space, the Homes.com Android app provides homebuyers and renters rich listing details, photo slideshows, maps, driving directions and more for nearly 4 million property listings. In addition to this information, the app uses its GPS capabilities to locate properties for sale near the Android user. The app also features the ability to easily refine searches on the fly, including a “grid view” feature for easy selection of properties grouped closely together on the map.
Other features can be used to:
- Instantly find nearby homes or rentals with the location finder
- Drag or pinch the screen to zoom and navigate neighborhoods with Google Maps
- Bookmark favorite Homes.com properties
- Easily share properties for sale or rent with friends and family
- Get fast and accurate local driving directions
- Search by MLS number
- Quickly connect with a Homes.com agent with built-in contact tools
The app is available to download in the Android Market under Free Apps. For added consumer convenience, Android users can also scan the QR code located below to automatically download the app.
To gain access to the Questions & Answers community, Agent Endorsements and other interactive features on Homes.com, agents and consumers can sign up for a MyHomes account, available free at MyHomes.com.
According to Jason Doyle, Homes.com vice president and general manager, “Our development in the mobile sphere is driven by our desire to empower our agents with the best tools and latest technologies possible to reach the ever growing mobile consumer market. With the release of our Android app, the Homes.com & ForRent.com Network is the first major player in the real estate space to reach all mobile consumers with apps or mobile sites designed specifically for all types of mobile phones. As Android is the fastest-growing mobile device platform rivaling the iPhone in popularity, we felt that we should break into this arena in a big way. Doyle added, “Our development in mobile echoes our consistent growth and record-breaking traffic trends with Homes.com overall, which surpassed the 6.5 million monthly visitor mark earlier this year.”
